Another year, and spaceship earth completes another trip around our sun. Is it something special or is it just one more day in the “life of the earth?” Well the earth doesn’t much care but for me, yes, it’s a special day, one of the combined 365 slices of time to both look back and ahead … to think about what went by and what’s still to come.
And this is a bit of a special year, a bit different from years in the past. Jordan Peterson’s, ‘12 Rules For Life’ pointed out something that I already knew, but he made me think of it in a new light … “compare yourself to who you were yesterday.”
So in that context, I’m reminded of a couple of other gems that I want to share. First an idea, the source of which I can’t remember, “You have the right to and truly only can, work on a single individual, … yourself.” And a second one from AA but attributed to Reinhold Neibur, “ God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
And so I’ll share with you my, ‘New Year’s Resolution,’ the one I’ve been working on for quite a long time, as I suspect we may all have, but maybe didn’t put into words consciously.
“I’ll try to be a little wiser tomorrow that I am today.”
And my New Year’s Wish for everyone, ‘May you like your life a little more each day,’ and … something from which I’m taking some wisdom for my tomorrows …
